[A Wholesome grass roots approach]

993879_10209107569183217_1856467893994578582_n.jpglogo_Habitat_for_Humanity.jpegJimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s involvement with Habitat for Humanity International began in 1984 when the former president led a work group to New York City to help renovate a six-story building with 19 families in need of decent, affordable shelter.  Since its inception, Habitat has built and created housing for over 2,700 families throughout Canada.

The harsh reality in this land of immense wealth and resources is that a dire need for affordable housing exists in all urban communities across Canada. Moreover, the stigma of charity and the evolution of urban ghettos, although providing a “roof overhead” too often leaves a social stigma that travels from generation to generation.

I have long been a huge fan of this organization and, in the past have helped financially and with a hammer.  Given the fact that today, over 7% of Canada’s population lives in poverty, the challenges…
